Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau slammed the US president for launching a trade war against "their closest partner and ally, their closest friend," favoring “talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin, aligning with a murderous dictator.”

Trudeau says Trump’s "dumb" tariff trade war is designed to collapse the Canadian economy.

Trudeau also rejected Trump’s repeated taunts that Canada should cede its sovereignty and join the US: “That is never going to happen. We will never be the 51st state.”

The Financial Times says "Trump’s crypto project made at least $350mn from the launch of his memecoin, a windfall that is likely to fuel concerns over conflicts of interest arising from the token.

Digital wallets owned by the entities running the scheme earned the money from sales of $TRUMP in the three weeks after it was launched in January, according to a Financial Times analysis of blockchain data."

New York CNN — "President Donald Trump established a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a stockpile of other digital assets through an executive order on Thursday, shortly before hosting a crypto summit at the White House."

The Treasury Department will set up an office to administer the reserve, which will be capitalized with Bitcoin (BTC) confiscated by the government as part of criminal or civil asset forfeiture proceedings, according to the order. “Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency,” the order said. “Because there is a fixed supply of BTC, there is a strategic advantage to being among the first nations to create a strategic bitcoin reserve.”

The prime minister who will resign in days, says Canada’s retaliatory response includes matching tariffs on C$155bn (US$107bn) worth of US goods. The first tranche of taxes applies to C$30bn worth of goods and the remaining C$125bn would kick in within 21 days, giving Canadian companies the chance to amend supply chains.

Trudeau spoke directly at US voters, saying: “We don’t want to see you hurt. But your government has chosen to do this to you. As of this morning, markets are down, and inflation is set to rise dramatically all across your country. Your government has chosen to put American jobs at risk at the thousands of workplaces that succeed because of materials from Canada or because of consumers in Canada.”

He said: “Americans will lose jobs. Americans will pay more for groceries, for gas, for cars, for homes.”

Addressing Trump directly, Trudeau said: “Even though you’re a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do.”

Amazon will pay $40 million to license a documentary and limited series about Melania Trump.

She also is invested in Cryptocurrency.

Bezos dined with the President-elect.

“The Amazon documentary deal with Melania Trump is additional evidence of one of the world’s largest corporations pandering to the Trump administration out of both fear and a desire for enrichment.”

President Donald Trump harkened back to his promise of a “golden age of America” as he concluded his remarks to a joint session of Congress, repeating the line that began his speech and was also a key theme of his inaugural address.

“My fellow Americans, get ready for an incredible future, because the golden age of America has only just begun. It will be like nothing that has ever been seen before,” he vowed.

Greenland

Trump said during his address to a joint session of Congress that the United States supports Greenland’s right to determine its own future but would “welcome” the country into the U.S. for national security — and to make them rich, he claims. “I think we’re going to get it," he said of Greenland. "One way or another, we’re going to get it.”

"The latter part of the statement elicited applause and laughter from Republicans. Since his first term in office, Trump has expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, which is a semiautonomous territory of Denmark, a longtime U.S. ally and a founding member of NATO.

It is also home to a large U.S. military base. Trump also kept up his calls to regain control of the Panama Canal. “We didn’t give it to China. We gave it to Panama. We’re taking it back,” Trump said of the Panama Canal.
